- In India Child Care Leave to Female employees came into effect from 01-09-2008.
- Women employees who are having minor children can apply for Child Care leave.
- CCL is admissible only for 2 eldest surviving children.
- As per RBE 57/2011 - Child Care Leave can be claimed for a period of 730 days (i.e., 2 years) during the entire service.
- A woman Railway Servant having minor children below the age of 18 years can apply for CCL.
- Up to the age 22 years, CCL can be claimed for disabled child.
- Minimum 40% of disability is required to claim CCL up to 22 years of child age.
- CCL can be combined with any other leave.
- CCL cannot be demanded as a matter of right.
- CCL can apply for not more than 3 spells in a calendar year.
- As per RBE 71/2014 minimum number of 15 days CCL has removed in each spell.

- CCL shall not be debited under Leave account.
- Not eligible for Transport allowance if CCL applied for more than 30 days.
- If employee under CCL for more than 120 days, she may be advised for retention of quarters for the leave period.
- CCL must be sanctioned under competent authority.
- LHAP is not considered under CCL.
- CCL should not ordinarily be granted during the probation period except in case of certain extreme situations where the leave sanctioning authority is fully satisfied about the need of Child Care Leave to the probationer.
- Benefit of encasement of Leave on Average Pay cannot be availed for CCL under Rule 540-A.
- During the period of CCL, the women employees shall be paid leave salary equal to the pay drawn immediately before proceeding on leave.
- Child Care Leave is to be treated as Recorded Leave.
- The leave application together with the sanction memorandum, if any, issued should be forwarded to the SR & Leave Section for making necessary entries.
- The applicants should submit their leave applications together with documentary proof of age of the child and the applications may be got verified from the concerned Pass Declaration submitted by the employees before leave is sanctioned.
